Having to jump through hoops like this has caused me to actually start running the wiki directly in the browser more than half the time, which is dangerous as any problems such as power outage or browser/computer crash will cause me to lose my changes, thus defeating the purpose of the "mandatory" backup all together. I don't think you truly understand the seriousness of this flaw!! Since my solution is only checking the folder every few hours, I have been turning off Dropbox if I am doing a lot of work on the wiki, then manually cleaning the backup folder before turning Dropbox back on. Pick an option, one or the other, but you can't have it both ways. If you don't think it is your responsibility to keep my backup folder clean, then it is also not your responsibility to force us to do backups in the first place. That will solve both problems because we can set number of backups to "zero". Automatic backups Automatic saving No browser add-ons needed Works on Linux and Windows Single file executable, can be moved, copied, etc. It is sad that I have to resort to a 3rd party solution because the app itself has no limits on the number of backups.ĭon't want to give us the option to turn it off? Then at least let us choose the number of maximum backups and have TiddlyWiki monitor the folder for me. Note that when the check box is selected, the Store no more than recent versions check box will change to Store no more than 1+ recent versions.I had to setup a 3rd party monitoring app that runs a script to check the number of files in the backup folder and to drop off older ones so that I only have a max of 5 backups. And only the third version of the backup will be incremental or differential one. Aside that, I like to be able to have my wikis available loaded. That said, TiddlyDesktop isn't perfect, because it cannot handle TiddlyWiki folders well (which I control with daily git), but I use a regular browser there. If you select incremental or differential method, the first backup chain will start from the second full backup version. TiddlyDesktop has few browser restrictions removed because it is made using a framework to develop web desktop applications. The first version will be excluded from the automatic cleanup, and will be stored until you delete it manually. The program will create two initial full backup versions. This is true because it stores the initial data state (for example, your system partition with recently installed Windows) or some other stable data state (for example, data after a successful virus check).ĭo not delete the first version of the backup - Select this check box to keep the initial data state. Often the first version of any backup is one of the most valuable versions. If it's true, the oldest backup version will be deleted. After creating a new backup version, the program checks whether the total backup size exceeds the specified value. Keep size of the backup no more than - Select this option to limit maximum size of the backup. When the number of version chains exceeds the specified value, the oldest backup version chain will be automatically deleted. Store no more than recent version chains (available for incremental and differential methods only) - Select this option to limit the maximum number of backup version chains. When the number of versions exceeds the specified value, the oldest backup version will be automatically deleted. Store no more than recent versions (available for full method only) - Select this option to limit the maximum number of backup versions. The oldest version chain will be deleted only when the most recent backup version of this chain is older than the specified period. Delete version chains older than (available for incremental and differential methods only) - Select this option to limit the age of backup version chains. All versions that are older than the specified period will be automatically deleted. Delete versions older than (available for full method only) - Select this option to limit the age of backup versions. To delete obsolete backup versions automatically, you can set one of the following cleanup rules:
